Travel through the Yukon at a slower pace on a winter journey designed around wellness, local experiences, and time in nature. Begin with three nights at The Black Spruce, where your own rental car gives you the freedom to explore Whitehorse and head beyond its lights after dark in search of the aurora.
Then fly north to Dawson City, where winter brings a quieter rhythm to this historic northern town. Settle into a locally owned lodge, pair guided aurora viewing with private spa time, get to know Dawson and its Gold Rush history, or venture into the vast winter landscape. It’s a journey that leaves room to slow down, connect with the places you visit, and return home feeling restored.

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN WHITEHORSE
Arrive in Whitehorse, pick up your rental car, and make the short drive to The Black Spruce, a collection of modern eco cabins surrounded by Yukon forest yet just minutes from downtown. Settle into your cabin and, after dark, venture beyond the city lights for your first opportunity to see the aurora.
Accommodation: Yukon Black Spruce
DAY 2: WILDLIFE & NORDIC WELLNESS
Discover some of the Yukon’s northern wildlife at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, home to species including muskox, wood bison, thinhorn sheep, elk, and Canada lynx. Enjoy a guided interpretive tour in a heated bus.
Then trade the winter air for the warmth of Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs. Spend the afternoon soaking and unwinding before returning to Whitehorse, with another evening free for aurora viewing.
Accommodation: Yukon Black Spruce
DAY 3: DISCOVER WHITEHORSE
Today is yours to experience the Yukon capital at your own pace. Explore its museums and cultural attractions, wander downtown, or head outdoors with an optional winter experience such as dog sledding or snowshoeing.
As evening falls, you can set out independently in search of clear skies or join an optional guided aurora tour.
Accommodation: Yukon Black Spruce
DAY 4: NORTH TO DAWSON CITY
Leave Whitehorse behind and fly north to Dawson City, a small historic community shaped by the Klondike Gold Rush and set along the Yukon River. Transfer to the locally owned Dawson Lodge, your home for the next three nights.
Tonight brings together two highlights of the journey: a guided search for the aurora followed by private late-night access to the Yukon Spa.
Accommodation: Dawson Lodge
DAY 5: SLOW DOWN IN DAWSON
Enjoy a slower morning in Dawson City with your included Yukon Spa Pass and treatment. Afterwards, explore the compact town centre, where the community’s Gold Rush history is still visible in its streets and buildings.
For a deeper look at the region, an optional guided tour of Dawson City and the surrounding Goldfields can be arranged.
Meal: Breakfast
Accommodation: Dawson Lodge
DAY 6: EXPLORE BEYOND DAWSON
You have another free day to shape as you wish. For those wanting to venture farther into the landscape, an optional excursion to Tombstone Territorial Park offers a full day among the rugged peaks and tundra north of Dawson.
Other possibilities include a snow machine adventure or a guided local tour. With Dawson at its quietest during winter, we recommend arranging an optional excursion in advance rather than leaving the entire day unplanned.
Meal: Breakfast
Accommodation: Dawson Lodge
DAY 7: RETURN TO WHITEHORSE
Transfer to the Dawson City airport and fly back to Whitehorse for your final night in the Yukon.
After checking into your hotel, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Revisit a favourite restaurant, spend some time downtown, or add one final guided aurora tour for another opportunity to see the northern lights before your journey ends.
Meal: Breakfast
Accommodation: Best Western Gold Rush Inn (or similar)
DAY 8: DEPART WHITEHORSE
Take the hotel shuttle to Whitehorse airport for your onward journey, bringing your winter escape through two very different sides of the Yukon to a close
