SAMPLE ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL DAY

Check-in at Watson’s Skyways Seaplane Base on Wawa Lake in Wawa, Ontario. Parking on-site. Take a 30-minute scenic floatplane flight over 113 km of Northern Ontario wilderness. All flights are scheduled and booked in advance with lodge reservations and usually depart in the mornings. Land on beautiful Kabinakagami Lake and dock at Pine Portage Lodge.

Beautiful Kabinakagami Lake is in the Northern watershed, its waters flow north into the Albany River system to James Bay.

Relax and enjoy the comforts of a log cabin/cottage set among majestic Norway Red Pine trees. Pine Portage offers a variety of accommodations with 1, 2, 3, and 4-bedroom cottages with modern 4-piece baths, with Queen and twin beds. First-day lunch may be in the Lodge Dining Room, or a boat ride to enjoy a “shore lunch” of freshly caught fish with other lodge guests. Scenic boat ride on the lake following shore lunch. All boats can accommodate 2-3 passengers.

Evening dinner served in the Main Lodge Dining Room – one seating at 6:30 pm. Enjoy salad bar, freshly baked bread, desserts, and a different main entrée each evening. After dinner relax and enjoy the beautiful sunsets on the lakeshore; maybe a bonfire to sit and watch the millions of stars light up the evening sky in the wilderness (wood provided for fires).

DAY 2: DAILY ACTIVITIES

After breakfast in the main lodge dining room (with a choice of fresh baking, fruits, hot cereal, and an a-la-carte menu), choose your adventure of the day:

A) Guided tour of the lake for wildlife viewing (moose, bear, beaver) and bird watching (eagles, loons), rockhounding, and learning freshwater fishing techniques. A packed lunch is provided but if you do catch your own fish, there is an option to enjoy a fresh fish shore lunch! If the weather is warm enough, enjoy an afternoon swim at one of the many beaches. Guided tours must be booked in advance, and subject to the availability of a guide.

OR

B) Plan a one day 9.6 km/6 mile downstream canoe trip on the Oba River. Lodge staff transports you across a 3/4-mile portage to the start of the river trip. Maps are provided for those who wish to enjoy the experience on their own. There is an opportunity for wildlife viewing as you paddle in the quiet surroundings. The journey consists of one short portage to move the canoes around a set of rapids on the river but other than that it is a leisure paddle down-stream to the mouth of the river at Kabinakagami Lake. From there you are transported back to the lodge by boat and motor. For the more experienced paddlers, you can continue along the lakeshore back to the lodge (Total route about 19.3 km/12 miles).

Return to the lodge for a time of relaxation before 6:30 pm dinner in the Main Lodge. Enjoy the company of the other lodge guests. Evening bonfire if desired.

DAY 3: DAILY ACTIVITIES

Enjoy breakfast in the main lodge dining room (with a choice of fresh baking, fruits, hot cereal, and an a-la-carte menu). Explore hiking portages around the lodge lined with the majestic red pine; one of the few stands in the Boreal Forest of Northern Ontario. Some trees are over 300 years old. Take time to relax and read a good book or paddle a kayak out on the bay in front of the lodge. Kayaks, canoes, and life jackets are available, as is a boat and motor and guided activities depending on your preference.

Dinner at the Main Lodge Dining Room.

DAY 4: DEPARTURE DAY

One last breakfast served in the dining room with a choice of fresh baking, fruits, hot cereal, or order from the a-la-carte menu. Morning check-out and return float plane flight to Watson’s Skyways Seaplane Base in Wawa, Ontario.
