Aurora Summer Adventure

This compact tour offers a perfect blend of activities to give you a taste of Canada’s far north, with some free time built in for you to add on optional experiences of interest. And, of course, each night will include time for the main event: Aurora hunting! Yellowknife is perfectly situated under the Aurora Oval for prime Northern Lights viewing and the temperatures in late summer and early fall are pleasant for spending time outdoors.

But the best part of this tour is that your guides know all the best scenic spots to make the most of each night under the stars and are able to relocate during poor weather. With mobile Aurora hunting, you’ll have a chance to see the Northern Lights set against a variety of landscapes — you might even catch an Aurora reflection in the lake, a truly incredible sight. Experience the magic of the Aurora Borealis, learn about the science of the lights and hear the Indigenous stories that have been passed down for generations.

DAY 1

Welcome to Yellowknife!

Once you arrive in the Northwest Territories, you’ll be transferred to your hotel to check in. Explore the city at your leisure. Yellowknife is a walkable city but there is a taxi service available
for those in need of it. Explore the small downtown core that has some unique shops and pleasantly surprising restaurants.

In the late evening, you’ll be picked up at your hotel for your first Aurora Hunting Tour! Your experienced guide will drive to various locations that have amazing vantage points to see the Lights. Snacks and hot beverages will be available. This is not a stationary tour — you’ll move around to different locations, searching for the beautiful Aurora. If you’re lucky and the Aurora is visible that night, your guide will assist you with taking some very memorable photos.

DAY 2

Today you will get to experience Yellowknife with a local guide who has grown up in the scenic city. See the famous Oldtown district where Yellowknife originally started almost 90 years ago and learn about the area’s unique history and rich Indigenous culture. Your tour will include a visit to the downtown area as well as the Visitor’s Centre where you’ll receive an official Yellowknife pin and a North of 60 Certificate.

One of the best parts of the tour is the local knowledge your guide will provide — it is like visiting an old friend and taking a trip through his/her hometown. Colourful stories guaranteed!

Enjoy free time in the afternoon to explore at your leisure or head back to your hotel for a rest before the night’s Aurora activities.

In the evening, you’ll be picked up once again for a night of Aurora hunting. On clear nights, you’ll be amazed at the stars and the stunning milky way.

Today’s itinerary is completely up to you!

Continue to explore Yellowknife at your leisure or choose an optional adventure tour for the day.

That evening you’ll be picked up from your hotel for one final Aurora hunting adventure.

Today you will say goodbye to the Northwest Territories and head back home with amazing memories and some incredible photos.
