Itinerary/Overview

This sample itinerary may vary. The duration can range from 2 to 4 nights, depending on your travel plans and preferred level of exploration.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN YELLOWKNIFE & FIRST AURORA HUNT

Arrive in Yellowknife and travel independently to your hotel. After settling in, take time to get oriented and enjoy your immediate surroundings, whether that’s a short walk nearby or a quiet pause before the evening ahead. In the evening, head out on your first Aurora Hunting tour operated by a Yellowknife-based, Indigenous-owned company. Traveling in a small group, you’ll leave city lights behind and move between viewing locations as guides respond to changing sky and weather conditions. Guides share practical insight into how the Aurora forms and what influences visibility, with professional Aurora photography included when conditions allow.

Accommodation: Chateau Nova (or similar)

DAY 2: YELLOWKNIFE CITY TOUR & EVENING AURORA VIEWING

Today begins with a guided sightseeing city tour that introduces Yellowknife’s history, including its mining roots, Indigenous presence, and Old Town, where the community first took shape. The tour provides useful context for understanding Yellowknife as a northern hub. The remainder of the day is free for independent exploration, walk along nearby lakes, visit museums or galleries, or enjoy the city at a relaxed pace. In the evening, head out again on an Aurora Hunting tour, offering a different perspective on the northern sky under changing conditions.

Accommodation: Chateau Nova (or similar)

DAY 3: INDEPENDENT EXPLORATION & FINAL AURORA HUNT

Enjoy a flexible day to explore Yellowknife at your own pace, whether revisiting familiar areas or discovering new parts of the city. In the evening, join a final Aurora Hunting tour, using the same mobile approach to adapt to weather and sky conditions. This last outing offers another opportunity to experience the northern sky, sometimes with wide-open views or subtle reflections on nearby lakes.

Accommodation: Chateau Nova (or similar)

DAY 4: DEPARTURE FROM YELLOWKNIFE

Check out of your hotel and travel independently to Yellowknife Airport for departure. If time allows, enjoy a final moment in the city before leaving Canada’s North with a clearer understanding of its landscape and northern character.
