Itinerary/Overview

DAY 1:

Leave Toronto (or another Ontario city) on a VIA Rail train to Ingersoll. (You can also opt to rent a car instead of taking the train)

Check into the Elm Hurst Inn & Spa, which offers luxury accommodation, fine dining, and spa relaxation on their heritage property on the outskirts of Ingersoll. The property is just a minute away from the Town of Ingersoll and 20 min from Woodstock.

Besides a night of accommodations in a Deluxe Inn Room, you’ll also receive a chilled bottle of sparkling wine from Burning Kiln Winery (Turkey Point, Ontario), a tasting of chocolates and a cheese & cracker tray from Local Cheese Artisans.

DAY 2:

Enjoy a gourmet breakfast at the Elm Hurst Mansion Restaurant. At 9:00 am set off for a guided walk of the Nith Forest.

You’ll be guided to a path less travelled, exploring untamed natural areas along the Nith River. Tributary of the Grand River Watershed (a designated Canadian Heritage River), the Nith is home to some of South Ontario’s largest forests and early Canadian culture. Hike through rare Carolinian Forest in hidden valleys that feel lost in time. The Nith’s Forests feature folklore of abandoned early riverside settlements plus amazing nature with stunning sights unknown even to many locals. Cross picturesque old iron bridges & watch out for herds of white-tailed deer crossing the river while Red-tailed Hawks cry out above.

This immersive interpretative forest experience includes animal tracking plus exploring habitats, uncovering old Trapper’s Lean-to’s & a pioneer’s cabin foundation lost in the forest. Complete with a campfire building for a warm lunch featuring delicious Maple Chilli, this Nith hike is an authentic explorer’s experience. (4 hours with approx. 6 km hike plus interpretative experiences & campfire lunch included).

Board your VIA train back to Toronto or other Ontario city.
