Itinerary/Overview

Your summer or fall adventure in the Northwest Territories starts in Yellowknife where you will board a bush plane for a scenic 25-minute flight to Blachford Lake. Accessible by bush plane only, Blachford Lake is located north of the East Arm of Great Slave Lake.

Once you arrive at the eco-lodge, you will have time to settle in and explore the beauty of this serene area. Your lodge is the only one located on this huge lake in the remote wilderness of the Northwest Territories so you will enjoy peace and quiet like few places on earth can offer while also having access to delicious chef-prepared cuisine and comfortable accommodations.

In the summer, the lake warms up quickly and the constant daylight offers plenty of time to take in fishing, canoeing, kayaking or boating on the lake. Some of the shallower parts of the lake can get warm enough for swimming. Summer is an excellent time for hiking as you’ll discover an abundance of northern wildflowers and berries, eagles, loons and beaver dams. Spend your evenings lounging in the hot tub or detoxing in the lakefront sauna. Being present in the north during the brief period of nearly 24 hours of daylight is an unforgettable experience.

Late summer/autumn (mid-August to October) allows much of the same warm-weather activities but brings back some darkness at night and is therefore a great time to listen to the loons on the lake while watching the Aurora Borealis reflect in the water. The Northwest Territories has been credited the “Aurora Capital of the World” as there is a 98% chance of seeing the Aurora during a three night visit. As this lodge is only accessible by bush plane, there are no roads and no light pollution from nearby towns, cities, cabins, or road traffic to distract from your Northern Lights viewing experience.
