This retreat is the perfect way to get started in whitewater paddling. You’ll receive instruction on paddling and get comfortable in your kayak or canoe before tackling some of the Class I-II rapids along the beautiful river. Hosted by three generations of whitewater champions, you’ll be in good hands!
Your home for the duration of the stay will be an off-grid cabana tucked into the woods at the world-renowned Madawaska Kanu Centre located just east of Ontario’s famous Algonquin Park. Enjoy delicious meals, a friendly atmosphere and stunning river views as you dip your toe into the fun and exciting world of whitewater adventure.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL
Arrive by 5 pm at the Madawaska Kanu Centre, set in a tranquil forest location along the Madawaska River. Settle into your off-grid cabana and get a tour of this family-run wilderness resort. Join fellow paddlers for a gourmet, locally sourced meal, served at 6 pm.
DAY 2: DAY ACTIVITIES
Rise and shine by heading to MKC’s yoga shala before enjoying breakfast at 8 am. At 9 am meet your instructor to get set with paddling equipment for the day’s adventure. With a gentle start on calm water, you’ll get comfortable in your boat and learn the foundation to paddling. Break at 12:30 for a hot buffet lunch to refuel before transitioning into the current.
Putting it all together, the afternoon will see you run a Class I-II set of rapids. Learning from the river, with the river; it’s an experience of a lifetime! After dinner, feel free to join an evening educational session and casual socializing by the fire.
DAY 3: DEPARTURE DAY
After a delicious breakfast and a cup of locally roasted espresso, explore the multitude of wilderness trails surrounding the resort and the river. Return in time for a nourishing lunch on the outdoor patio.
