Each season on Fogo Island — there are seven — offers a different travel experience.
Each stay at the Fogo Island Inn is a distinct experience but we have provided a sample itinerary below.
Day 1: Arrive on Fogo Island
Whether you arrive by boat or chartered helicopter, you’ll be blown away by the beauty and serenity of Fogo Island. Enjoy a warm welcome by the staff and meet your community host — this is a local resident who is assigned to you and who will act as your guide throughout the trip. Depending on which season you choose for your Fogo Island trip, there will be a plethora of activities to do.
There are seven distinct seasons on Fogo Island, hopeful springs, a trap berth season inspired by the traditional fishery, warm summers, the world’s best berry picking in the early fall, tempestuous late falls, snowy winters, and a spectacular pack ice season. Each of the seven seasons provides a different perspective.
Enjoy a delicious meal at the Inn’s renowned restaurant, with food created using local ingredients and inspired by the natural surroundings. One of the Inn’s most iconic spaces, the Dining Room features a dramatic vaulted ceiling and looks out over the ocean with views of the community of Barr’d Islands in the distance. Depending on the season, guests seated in the Dining Room can watch icebergs bobbing in the waves, whales breaching offshore, or enjoy a front-row view of a savage North Atlantic gale.
Retire for the night to your guest room. Each guest room is a handmade modern contemporary expression of traditional outport design and decor.
Day 2-3: Explore Fogo Island
Fogo Island is small enough to get to know, yet big enough to offer lots to do throughout its seven singular seasons. After a memorable breakfast in the dining room, head out with your local guide to explore Fogo Island and meet some of the residents.
There are more than a dozen easily accessible trails on the Island, and those who want to venture further can join our naturalists, geologists-in-residence, and community hosts for guided hikes.
Fogo Island Inn has an international reputation for exceptional, embodied, place-specific hospitality and bold, thoughtful, humanistic contemporary design.
