Day 1: Edmonton
Adventure awaits as you meet your guide bright and early in Edmonton, or in the charming town of Hinton near Jasper.
You'll embark on a 3-hour drive towards the stunning wilderness, where you'll pitch your tent by a picturesque lake and dive straight into canoe training. Discover the thrill of mastering basic paddle strokes, emergency procedures and signals, and receive expert advice on camping in the great outdoors, personal equipment, and work sharing within your crew. With the river ahead of you, your excitement builds for tomorrow's journey. But for now, take a moment to enjoy a delicious steak dinner cooked to perfection on the grill.
Days 2 to 4: On The River
Get ready to be captivated by the sheer natural beauty of the Athabasca River, as you paddle your way along the waterway. You’ll pitch your tent on sandy islands or cozy spots along the shore for the next three nights. As you navigate through the glacier-fed river, the power of the water in early season or the serene quietness of the fall season will take your breath away. The river valley is wild and untamed, and you'll have the chance to spot wildlife such as wild geese, beavers, eagles, elk, bear, and moose. Spend your days leisurely drifting downstream, tackling rapids and gravel bars.
Your paddling speed depends on the water level, and at times, you may even have to drag the boat over shallow spots but this trip requires no portages. Take breaks to swim, explore, fish, and bask in the glow of a campfire under the breathtaking Northern Lights. And, as a responsible traveller, rest assured that your group will leave no trace but footprints in the sand - keeping the wilderness pristine and untouched.
Day 5: Edmonton
The end of your incredible 160km (100 mile) canoe trip is in sight as you reach the town of Whitecourt, the first human settlement since your journey began. Celebrate your accomplishments with your crew and hop on the bus that's waiting to take you back to Edmonton. Relive the unforgettable moments of your trip on the way back.
