Finbarr McCarthy and Eleanor McGrath raise their four children in Toronto, while being challenged by their organic farming life in Apple Hill, Ontario. In January 2014, they purchased Springfield Farm – an over 200-year-old farm of 118 acres in the small hamlet of Apple Hill, Ontario in South Glengarry. They have worked hard to establish Springfield Farm in the growing AgriTourism/Local Food economy as an “Environmental Farm Oasis.” They are active members of local agricultural groups focused on the needs of small farmers and organics, along with hosting two consecutive years of the “Doors Open”, supporting Beyond 21, and membership in the Ontario East British Home Child Family association. Springfield Farm works in partnership with ALUS Canada, the Raisin Region Conservation Authority, SARPAL, Managed Forest Programme, and proud members of the Canadian Organic Growers. And after four years of growing the farm business, we are proud members of the OFA! Eleanor is a member of the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder Community Editorial Board and the regional representative for the Ontario Barn Preservation Society. A great honour for Eleanor was being chosen as the South Glengarry Citizen of the Year 2018, and then receiving the 2019 SDSG Service Award.
