Québec: Experience the Via Ferrata in the Canyon Sainte-Anne
Just 30 minutes from Quebec City is the beautiful Sainte-Anne region located on the outskirts of the scenic town of Beaupré. You may know Mont-Sainte-Anne as a winter ski haven, but there is another heart-pumping adventure offered in the area year-round but we think would be amazing as a summer-time adventure. The Canyon Sainte-Anne is a 1.2-billion-year-old rock formation that sits among old-growth forests and surrounds the wild Sainte-Anne-du-Nord river as it rushes through. This experience allows visitors to safely scale the granite canyon walls — moving from one side of the gorge to the other, right by the thundering waterfall — on a Via Ferrata. Italian for “iron road,” a Via Ferrata is a cable system that allows climbers to attach their harness to a built-in rope that’s anchored to the canyon wall. Climbers can then scale areas that would otherwise be reserved for only experienced climbers. This activity is safe for kids over the age of six, but exciting enough for adults. It makes a great gift for those hard-to-buy-for teens!
