Please note: this sample itinerary is based on a seven day stay. If you have chosen a shorter duration, please disregard the additional days at the Black Spruce.
Modelled after the renowned Juvet Landscape Hotel in Norway, the Black Spruce Cabins offer unique, environmentally focused lodging. Made from rough-cut local Yukon spruce, these cabins include a full kitchen and are nestled in nature, yet just a short drive from Whitehorse’s best restaurants, bars, and attractions. Enjoy distinctive features such as Shou Sugi-Ban siding (a traditional Japanese wood-burning technique) along with a cedar sauna built around existing boulders and heated by a Finnish wood stove. Surround yourself with the rocky cliffs and forest of the adjacent park.
Day 1:Â
After landing in Whitehorse, pick up your rental car at the airport and drive the short distance to your accommodations.
Check into your fully contained passive solar cabin using a door code and enjoy the feeling of being surrounded by forests, while only a few minutes from downtown Whitehorse.
Take some time to shop in Whitehorse for groceries if you’d like to stock your fridge at the cabin.
Day 2-6:
Spend your days relaxing in the cabin, visiting eclectic Whitehorse and exploring the vast northern landscape. Take advantage of the long hours of daylight in the summer: in the early parts of the summer, the sun doesn’t set, but darkness slowly returns for a few hours each day as the summer progresses. This means that you rarely have to worry about getting caught out in the dark when you are on an adventure.
The cabins make a perfect homebase for day trips to places such as Carcross and the Southern lakes region (approximately 45 minutes away) or Haines Junction and Kluane National Park (about 2 hours away).
Your stay includes a visit to the recently renovated Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs (adults only) where you can relax and rejuvenate in the ancient restorative mineral springs and enjoy the onsite amenities that feature both Scandinavian and Japanese Onsen healing practices.
Take a trip to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, located approximately 30 min from Whitehorse, to see northern wildlife such as elk, Canada lynx, thinhorn sheep, wood buffalo and muskox.
In the evenings, head out to try some of Whitehorse’s best restaurants for dinner (we highly recommend the Wayfarer).
Day 7:
Check out of the cabins and return your rental car at the airport.
