This 5-day road trip through Ontario’s Highlands does just that. Enjoy comfortable accommodations, beautiful scenery and interactive activities along the route.
Ontario’s Highlands is a big and beautiful region only 2.5 hours east of Toronto and half an hour west of Ottawa, but a world away from it all. This itinerary mixes small town visits with stops in farm country for a relaxing and picturesque excursion.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL
Transfer east and north into the farm country of Kawartha Lakes. Meet the owner of South Pond Farms for a walking tour of an organic, heritage farm with a country kitchen and restored barn. Learn the art of traditional bread making & specialty practices. After lunch, participate in a culinary workshop. Transfer east over rolling hills of Northumberland County. Arrive and check-in to Elmhirst’s Cottage Resort for free time, dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: DAILY ACTIVITIES
After breakfast, enjoy a sustainable farm tour. Check-out, transfer east through Northumberland County to take-in afternoon matinee at Westben Concerts at the Barn (July only) OR enjoy a walking tour of the town. After lunch, enjoy an open-air concert OR visit Ranney Gorge, Ferris Provincial Park. Continue transfer east and north through Hastings to Lanark County, the Maple Syrup Capital of Ontario. Continue east and arrive and check-in the BW Plus Parkside Inn & Spa.
DAY 3: DAILY ACTIVITIES
After breakfast, enjoy a walking tour of beautiful Stewart Park. Check-out, transfer northeast, en route visit a distillery OR chocolate factory in the mill town of Almonte OR visit the Textile Museum. After lunch, continue to transfer north into rural Ottawa Valley, observe farm sugar maple bushes. Stop-in village of Pakenham, discover Ontario’s oldest operating General Store OR tour local microbrewery and tasting. Arrive and check-in The Whitewater Inn OR BW Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: DAILY ACTIVITIES
After breakfast, check-out. Enjoy a Cycling OR walking tour of charming Pembroke. After lunch, transfer west into rolling hills of the picturesque Madawaska Valley. Visit The Algonquin Way Cultural Centre, home to the Algonquin’s of Pikwakanagan OR the oldest Polish-Kashubian settlement in Canada. Arrive, check-in private cabin at Spectacle Lake Lodge for free time, dinner and overnight.
DAY 5: DEPARTURE
After breakfast, hike the local trail to the lookout. Check-out, transfer south, visit Maynooth’s, General Store. Continue south, visit Bancroft Gem & Mineral Museum OR Old Hastings Mercantile & Art Gallery. After lunch, commence transfer south, visit Petroglyphs Provincial Park to observe the largest collection of Indigenous rock carvings OR continue for a tour of The Canadian Canoe Museum. Continue south and west to return to Toronto.
