This water adventure is a great introduction to canoeing and canoe day-tripping … in style!

Discover the backcountry beauty of the Haliburton Highlands as you paddle the still waters of its scenic lakes. This 3-day canoeing excursion introduces travellers to the joy of slow travel with instructions on paddling techniques, hands-on experience and some interesting stops along the route.

Visit a canoe builder who makes birch bark canoes and stop in a paddle shop that makes amazing paddles; learn new forms of paddling to see which one you like best; and dip your paddle into the waters of Margaret, Dan, Horse and McEwen Lakes. Well suited for both novice and experienced canoeists.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Arrive at the accommodation and settle in. If you are new to canoeing you will learn the basics of flatwater canoeing under the guidance and safety of a certified instructor. For those with some canoeing experience, this will be an opportunity to refresh and hone your paddling skills. After your experience, rest and relaxation. Enjoy dinner and gather around an outdoor campfire for songs, stories, and sweets with a local character. Meals: D

DAY 2: DAILY ACTIVITIES

After breakfast, arrive at Margaret Lake. Review canoeing and portaging basics. Embark on a canoe trip Margaret Lk. – Dan Lk.‐ Horse Lk. ‐ McEwen Lk. – Black River – Wren Lk. Bush lunch on route. Arrive at Black River Canoe access point. Afterward, visit Rick Nash, a birch bark canoe builder. Return to accommodation for dinner and overnight. Meals: B, L, D

DAY 3: DAILY ACTIVITIES & DEPARTURE

After breakfast, check out your accommodation. Experience either canoeing (advanced skills), introduction to stand-up paddleboarding, or introduction to kayaking. After lunch, visit the Paddle Shop at Haliburton Forest to see a wide variety of paddles, see how paddles are made, and shop (optional) for your very own paddle. Meals: L
